A Look At The Reed & Barton Cross

For 49 years, people have anticipated the newest edition of the Reed & Barton Christmas Cross. There is more to their enthusiasm than the satisfaction of adding to their collections.
Like traditional holiday recipes or gift-giving rituals, the reappearance of treasured ornaments cheers the soul. Unwrapping them and taking careful inventory brings to mind the stories attached to them, especially when they’ve been passed down for generations. Arranging them on Christmas trees, mantels, wreaths or gift boxes is one of the year’s most pleasant pastimes.
The First Ornaments
Germans of the 16th century get credit for innovating decorated Christmas trees as we know them today, and it is believed that Protestant reformer Martin Luther was the first to light one with candles.
Christmas trees gained popularity in America in the late 1800s. The first ornaments were baked goods or homemade trinkets, but German immigrants began making reusable decorations. The practice quickly caught on. With the advent of Christmas tree lights in 1880, ornament makers started to use materials that reflected their twinkle.
Silver ornaments became an especially popular choice in the 1970s. Silver’s durability makes it ideal for years of decorating, and its reflective luster is enhanced by the deep green boughs and glowing lights of a Christmas tree.

Eight Refreshing Cocktails For Your Classy July 4th BBQ
If you are looking to make your Fourth of July gathering red, white and boozy, you need the right barware and drink recipes. Summer cocktails should be light, fun and classy. Here are a few ideas to inspire you.
Blue Sparkler
This drink should be served on ice. Use thick ice cubes to add some white coloring to the drink. To mix the drink, combine a cup of UV Blue, a cup of mango Absolut vodka and two cans of your favorite lemon-lime soda. Add a drop of blue food coloring for a vibrant color. Drop a few cherries in the drink to garnish it, and you can add a splash of grenadine if you wish. For ultimate visual appeal, serve it in a crystal Double Old Fashioned glass from Crystal by Godinger.
Red, White and Blue Sangria
For this drink, mix a bottle of white wine with one-half cup each of simple syrup, berry vodka and lemon juice. Add a cup of triple sec. Cut fresh pineapple slices into star shapes with a sharp knife. You can use a small cookie cutter as a guide if you have one. Put the slices in the pitcher, and add some blueberries and strawberry slices. Chill before serving. This refreshing cocktail looks stunning in a crystal pitcher such as the Serenity pitcher made by Nambe.

Why Are Moscow Mules Served In Copper Mugs?
The Moscow Mule is a simple yet popular mixed drink. It consists of lime juice, vodka and ginger beer. This beverage first appeared in 1941, according to The New York Times. It succeeded in greatly boosting the demand for both vodka and copper mugs. You can find several reasons to serve a Moscow Mule in this type of cup.
Extra Cold
Beverages feel colder if you drink them from copper vessels. The metal’s temperature immediately drops when someone adds a cool liquid and ice cubes to a mug. Consequently, the drink seems particularly refreshing. Cocktail enthusiasts have recognized this advantage of copper for hundreds of years.
Insulating
This material doesn’t only create a chilly sensation. It also insulates the beverage from warm air. Your Moscow Mule will remain as cold as possible, and the ice cubes won’t dilute it by melting too soon. The insulating effect benefits drinkers who venture outdoors on hot summer days or sip cocktails in rooms that lack air conditioning.

A Complete Guide To Cleaning Silver
Silver is among the most beautiful precious metals found on Earth. It is rare enough that owning it is a status symbol. It is also common enough to be an affordable luxury. If you enjoy silver, you may have a collection of silver coins, a few pieces of silver jewelry or a set of silver flatware. You may even have a treasured set of silver Moscow Mule mugs or julep cups.
If silver has any weakness as a precious metal, it is the fact that it forms silver sulfide after prolonged exposure to sulfur in the air. The black tarnish mars appearance of the otherwise beautiful metal. Severe tarnish might even cause you to avoid displaying or using your silver items.
Don’t let the fear of tarnish prevent you from using your silver regularly. Polishing silver is actually quite easy. Doing it safely, though, takes time. You want to remove the worst of the tarnish without damaging the silver’s finish or removing the natural patina, so patience is a virtue when polishing silver.
Keep these tips in mind when you clean your silver at home. View Full Article…
