6 Reasons Framed Gifts are a Great Idea

There is someone special to you, and you want to let them know how much you care. But, maybe, you aren’t sure how. With Easter, Mother’s Day, and Father’s Day right around the corner, how do you express your fondness?

The answer might be in a picture frame. Framed gives are ideal for many reasons. For starters, the possibilities of what can be framed are endless — much like the frames themselves. Before brushing aside this idea or deeming it unoriginal, you may want to consider the countless number of things you can frame as a gift.

  • Tickets to an event you attended together (i.e. movie, concert, musical)
  • Cross-stitched or other handmade gifts
  • Their favorite CD or vinyl album
  • A page or passage from their favorite book
  • A pressed version of their favorite flower
  • And, of course, photos of the two of you

Best Gifts for Valentine’s Day 2019 from Silver Superstore

There are several intriguing theories about the origin of Valentine’s Day.

The name “Valentine” traces back to at least three saints in Roman Catholic history.

Each year in mid-February, a pagan festival in ancient Rome celebrated romance and fertility.

In the Middle Ages, so-called wildlife experts in England declared that birds began mating every year on February 14. We suspect that the bird-watchers owned stock in a greeting card company. Nevertheless, February 14 came to be associated with romance.

Make This Year Memorable

Nothing says “last-minute gift” like grocery store chocolates or wilted roses wrapped in cellophane. Your heartthrob will appreciate the gesture but probably not remember it a month from now.

We have hundreds of gifts that are as enduring as your love for that special someone in your life. Here are some suggestions for making this Valentine’s Day memorable.

Jewelry

There’s nothing like jewelry to make a man or woman feel appreciated. We’ve curated unique designs from some of the world’s most respected silversmiths. Just select a category to start browsing.

Storage

We also carry dozens of jewelry storage solutions. Search the site for finely crafted boxes, chests, stackable cases and handsome valets for men. Be sure to add some Hagerty Jewel Clean to keep your gift looking its best.

Crystal

Waterford Crystal traces back to 18th-century Ireland. Each piece is thoroughly inspected after each of the six stages of production. If the quality isn’t up to the highest standards at any point in the process, the crystal is smashed and sent back to the furnace for remelting.

That explains the uncommon, exquisite beauty of our Waterford gifts. Prepare to be inspired:

Picture Frames

Daily Facebook selfies can’t compare to one nice portrait in an elegant frame. If its been a while since you had a professional take your picture — or if you have a favorite photo with your sweetheart — consider framing an image that will be treasured forever. We offer frames in a variety of shapes, sizes and designs to delight both men and women.

Cunill is an especially fine manufacturer. Its sterling silver is significantly thicker than the industry standard. Each frame is crafted from a single piece of silver for durability and seamless aesthetic flow. The backing and easel are made of bubinga, a rare imported African hardwood, and the construction hides the hardware.

You may prefer one of Cunill’s 24-karat gold-plated frames. In either case, you can expect heirloom quality. The distinctive red gift boxes are perfect for Valentine’s Day.

Especially for Men

The guys are typically harder to shop for on this holiday. We’ve made it easy for you with a wide selection of gifts that most men don’t think of buying for themselves:

Take advantage of our convenient engraving services and assortment of fonts. You can personalize your gift with a name, date or unique message. Simply add the service to your shopping cart and follow the prompts. Your message will be sized appropriately on the gift. For items that can’t be engraved, we offer engravable keepsake gift tags.

Don’t wait until the last minute this year. Thoughtfully choose a gift that will spark romance every day for years to come.

A Brief History Of The Wallace Candy Cane

A History Of The Wallace Candy Cane

The 2021 Wallace Candy Cane is just one of the many classic ornaments that we offer at Silver Superstore. This piece has been released annually for decades, but where did it get its start?

A Brief History Of The Candy Cane

If a legend dating to 1670 is to be believed, the first candy cane was the brainchild of a German church choirmaster. Hoping to keep the little ones quiet during a reenactment of the Nativity, he asked a local confectioner to make what he described as “sugar sticks” for them.To justify doling out treats in church, the choirmaster suggested adding a crook at the top; with any luck, that would inspire the children to reflect on the humble shepherds in the scene.

This lovely story may have some basis in truth, but the first stick candies didn’t debut until confectioners competed for prizes at an exhibition in Massachusetts in 1837. The earliest recipe for a straight peppermint candy stick was published in 1844, and there’s mention made of a candy cane in an 1866 literary work. Candy canes as we now know them didn’t show up on Christmas trees until the early 1880s.

They’re still showing up today.
